What is Plasma and what are Platelets?

According to the Hospital for Special Surgery, Plasma is the liquid portion of blood. In the composition of the plasma is mostly water and proteins. Platelets are blood cells that have growth healing functions. When you get a paper cut- your platelets are hard-at-work to heal your wound as fast as possible. With advanced techniques we are able to concentrate these regenerative healing cells in a simple outpatient setting.

The Process

A small amount of peripheral blood is taken at the beginning of the appointment. While the patient is continuing care, the blood is placed into a container to spin, this separates the blood sample into ‘layers’ of platelet rich plasma. The whole process can last up to 30 minutes.
